Outdoors: Snow Day in Savage Gulf State Park, Altamont
I truly couldn’t help myself as I stared at what was the last day of snow on the ground in Tennessee so off galavanting I went to Savage Gulf State Park in the greater umbrella of South Cumberland State Park to see some waterfalls.
Oddly enough, the most scary part of my hike this time was making it across the road from the parking lot to the trailhead as it was still a solid sheet of ice. Y’all please be careful if you hike in these conditions. Wear spikes and appropriate shoes while remembering to take your time so you don’t get to meet Tennessee State Parks Rangers as they carry you out
This part of Savage Gulf houses some of the prettiest winter spots in all 95 counties as I stopped by Upper and Lower Greeter Falls (and its infamous spiral staircase) as well as the gorgeous Boardtree Falls. It was absolutely peaceful and while the ground was still covered in snow and some ice, the weather was closer to 50 degrees.
We truly live in the best state and they offer us access to their extensive list of Tennessee State Parks and natural areas for FREE!
Y’all go be Tennesseans this week and see what your great state has to offer!
