Outdoors: Cumberland Gap National Historic Park, Cumberland Gap

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

We took a detour and headed wayyy up to Cumberland Gap in Claiborne County to check out Cumberland Gap National Historical Park and Iron Furnace.

This town and its geological gap in the mountains is the stuff of Tennessee legend and we took the boys all the way up the mountain to check our Tri-State Peak where you can stand in Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky all at once.

Obviously, one of those is better than the other but it was an awesome hike with a great view into Middlesboro, KY so I can’t knock it for that alone. Ha!

This path has allowed travelers from Native Americans to settlers to modern day Americans to traverse what would normally be an almost impassible stretch across the range. Side note: I used to come up to Claiborne County back in the day for federal stuff and want to offer a shoutout to Mrs. Eleanor Yoakum, the Queen of all things in that area.

90 counties down. Only 5 to go.

Y’all go be Tennesseans this week and see what your great state has to offer!
