Attraction: Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary, Petros

Happy Sunday Y’all!

We took the boys to the infamous Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary in Morgan County to see the first Maximum Security Prison in Tennessee.

Economic development takes many forms and through a lot of hardwork and determination, this former home of inmates has become an incredibly cool family destination.  There is an onsite distillery, tours of the famous museum and a great restaurant called the Warden’s Table where Arch 5 finally realized his dream of eating in a jail cell.

Hope he was scared straight……

Tennessee is the best state and we have so many awesome things to do but Brushy Mountain was truly one of the first real tourist stops in Morgan County aside from Frozen Head State Park and the revenue associated with it will only improve the lives of residents.

While Johnny Cash played at Folsom, Mark Collie played here to the inmates before it closed down and filmed a documentary. Brushy Mountain was also the home of the notorious James Earl Ray who once escaped.

Y’all go be Tennesseans this weekend and see what your great state has to offer!
