Around Town: USGA Senior Amateur

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

The Chattanooga area has always been one of the most important in the world for Amateur Golf. We have been fortunate to play a role in history in hosting the Southern Amateur, which was won by Bobby Jones at Chattanooga Golf & Country Club and Seth Raynor and his gem at the Lookout Mountain Club.

None of these however have contributed more than The Honors Course built by Jack Lupton in the early 1980’s. His dedication to amateur golf will never be fully appreciated. This week, his Pete Dye masterpiece is being shown off in its full glory after a restoration by Gil Hanse as the USGA Senior Amateur is hosted in Ooltewah showcasing golfers. In 2026, the US Women’s Amateur is coming in advance of the Big Show, the US Amateur, which is being hosted in 2031 for the 2nd time.

All of this and add a couple NCAA Championships and a Tiger Woods victory when he was at Stanford and you have a recipe for history. This is golf in its purest form.

Y’all hydrate and go see one of the most beautiful places in Tennessee this week!
